OUR ACTIVITIES

Adult Training Centre:

India has the largest population of blind people in the world—15 million people lack sight, in part because of malnutrition, diseases and ignorance. There's a stigma associated with blindness, and many blind Indians struggle to find work. Our centre imparts vocational training to both Blind as well as Physically impaired students. It provides training to 70 students in our various types of training ie. Music, Computer operating, Chair caning, Door mat making, making office files & paper folders, telephone operating etc.

Music:

The center has been recognized by Akhil Bhartiya Gandharva Mahavidhyalaya Mandal, Mumbai for Praveshika & Visharad level degree. We have always had 100% results for Praveshika & Mahyama. We also teach music to school students. We have a couple of students who are exceptional musicians.

Computer Training:

We have a computer lab equipped with JAWS software installed for the blind to train the blind and other disabled students. Our computer teacher, who is also blind, imparts basic computer training to the students in our centre in different batches.

Other Trainings:

We also give students various vocational trainings like Telephone operating, Chair caning, file and folder and doormat making. During the training period, some of the trained trainees gets a chance to earn pocket money for Chair canning, filing and doormat work. We supply the canned chairs and filing folders to government offices like collector office, DSP office, district panchayat and other government departments.

Prevention of Disability:

We regularly organize Free Camps, School Health Program, Awareness Programs, Distribution of awareness materials, etc and screen 700-1000 people every month in the remote villages of Gujarat.

Advocacy Activities:

Knowingly or unknowingly people with disabilities are usually denied of their basic rights and we challenge them through our advocacy activities for these people.

Organize Sports & Recreational events:

We have organized several Intercity and Interstate Sports & Recreational events for our students & we continue to do it on a regular basis.

Braille Training:

Braille is a writing system used by the blind and the visually impaired that is used for books, menus, signs, elevator buttons, and currency. Braille-users can read computer screens and other electronic supports thanks to refreshable braille displays. They can write braille with the original slate and stylus or type it on a braille writer, such as a portable braille note-taker, or on a computer that prints with a braille embosser. Our Braille teachers teach our visually impaired students how to read and write in Braille.

Khel Mahakumbh:

Every year end we organize an event named Khel Mahakumbh wherein disabled children and adults from Valsad and nearby districts get an opportunity to participate and win prizes. This event has been authorized by the Sports Authority of Gujarat Government. Every year hundreds of disabled adults and children participate in the Khel Mahakumbh. This is one of the largest events that we organize every year. This event is like a mini Olympic for disabled kids. They get to participate in 100 meter race, shot put, tricycle racing, cricket etc. It gives us immense pleasure to inform everyone that our Valsad Blind Cricket team has been winning this competition since the past 5 consecutive years.

Blind Cricket:

Cricket being a popular sport in our country, we at Valsad NAB do not miss any opportunity to organize and participate in a cricket event for our disable kids. Every year apart from the Cricket tournament that happens during the Khel Mahakumbh, our students also take part in the Interstate Cricket Tournaments wherein Blind cricketers from various states participate. Our Valsad Blind Cricket team as mentioned above is one of the best blind cricket teams in India. Our team has won several awards for cricket.

Dandiya / Garba Competition:

Navaratri is an important festival in Gujarat. Every year whether we get sponsors or no, we celebrate this festival in our play ground without fail. We have a few students who are exceptional in Garba / Dandiya dance. The Dandiya competition is held on the last day of the Navaratri festival.
